How To Handle Working from Home

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are now working from home. Even after this time, some people are still getting used to working from home. Read out these important tips on how to handle working from home.

It may be possible that you’ll be working from home for the remainder of your current job’s tenure, depending on whether the business moves your position to a remote one to save on costs.

We wanted to provide a short guide to making the best of your work-from-home situation.

Stick To A Schedule

This is probably the hardest thing to do while working from home, especially if you also have kids that are stuck in the house, too.

If you’re working from home, you still have to be working from home. More importantly, you have to get rid of as many distractions as possible.

Schedule out your work day into chunks. You have the mandatory meetings, so you can schedule around those. There’s time for your normal everyday tasks, there’s time for answering questions and communicating with the team, and there’s time for more “deep work” where you have to concentrate on tasks that are important for the day.

Continue to wake up at the same time, if possible. This keeps you in a rhythm that allows you to maintain some semblance of normalcy while this pandemic is going on.

Some workplaces might be using tools like Hubstaff to log hours. By sticking to a schedule, you can keep to their requirements very easily.

Make your Schedule Clear To Your Coworkers & Managers

A schedule is no good if other people don’t allow you to adhere to it. Let people know what your schedule is, when you’re going to be on, and when you’ll be spending time answering questions.

Slack and other similar tools allow you to set your working hours, so you don’t get notifications from people outside your normal working hours.

Include Some “Me Time”

Just like you want to minimize distractions while you’re working, you also need to minimize work-related distractions while you’re spending time alone or with family.

By scheduling “me time”, and making that clear to your colleagues, it will be much easier to keep work separate from your home life, even though you’re working at home. Keep reading the important tips how to handle working from home.

Maximize Work & Minimize Slack Chatter

Slack, Skype, Zoom, and many other programs are used by workplaces to allow people to easily communicate remotely. Slack, a chat service that allows workplaces to organize people into channels relevant to their departments and projects, is one of the most popular.

It’s very easy to get into chats with people on Slack that can carry on and get in the way of work.

This causes work days to stretch even longer, since you’re still accountable for the work you need to get done.
